Catalog Tips and Requirements

Joan DeYoung just sent an excellent example of email that kills 2 birds with one stone (It included a picture of her quilt plus the label info and her short description. Even if you are not done with your quilts, copy me on the label info you send Christina. I can start to generate my catalog info and list of works. Thank you in advance! Lynn J +++++++++++++++++

HI everyone,
I hope you are working on all those fabulous pieces for the show.
I will be creating the 2022 catalog again this year. Here are a couple of tips and requirements.

Once again, the best quality pictures of your pieces are those taken in natural (outside) light at home. The quality of photos from recent smart phones is very good. I find it easiest to lay the quilt on the ground and stand over it or on a step stool and center the phone over the center of the piece. Keep it level so the shape of your quilt is not distorted. I can do minor adjustments on too light / too dark exposure and cropping the photo. Please email me pictures of your pieces as jpeg files using the following naming convention, if possible:
Yourlastname_NameofPiece.jpeg.
for example: Jurss_NarusWhirlpools.jpeg
You can send them all at once or as they are ready. Please email to ljurss@roadrunner.com
Please let me know if you submit titles for labels to Christina, but don’t enter that quilt because I will be looking for it!

Based on feedback from one of our show patrons, I would like to enrich the catalog with some text for each entry to include your inspiration and materials and methods. By publishing on Amazon compared to Shutterfly, we have the flexibility of dedicating more space per piece and can accommodate brief information if you would lie to include it.

Its completely voluntary, so if you don’t want to include anything (besides size, that’s OK too)

The entry might look like this in the catalog

Naru’s Whirlpools
38” W x 42”H
In the strait between Naru Island and the Japanese mainland connecting the inland Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean, the ebb and flow of tides creates massive 100 ft whirlpools. I captured the color and movement of the water with varying sizes of the traditional quilt block, Snail’s Trail.
Commercial cottons, vintage silk and wool Japanese kimono. Machine pieced & quilted.

Please let me know if you have questions.

Best,
Lynn J

Send Photos of Your 2025 Quilts ASAP to Lynn Jurss

I will be creating another catalog for the 2025 Extreme Quilters show. The best quilt photos are those that are taken before arriving at the gallery. I will photograph quilts hung at the show, but the lighting and my ability to photograph the quilts straight on are compromised.

Please send photos of your quilts with the following considerations:

1. Send a high resolution jpeg (300 dpi or at least 3MB) file for each quilt.

2. Fill the photo frame as much as possible with the quilt, and take the picture straight on so the camera is parallel with the quilt (i.e. so that the quilt is not distorted). I pin my quilts to a design wall to make sure they are flat and use a tripod with a level to get a good straight on, square shot.

3. Use good lighting without shadows. Cloudy or early daylight is best to avoid strong shadows or over-exposing.

4. Save as a .jpeg file.

5. Name each picture file with the following information:

YourLastName_QuiltTitle.jpeg (example: Jurss_Unraveled.jpeg)

6. Email your photos to me at ljurss@roadrunner.com. You may need to send a few photos at a time if you have size restriction on your email account. If you have any questions, contact me.
